Edmonton – Edmonton Airports will be conducting an emergency response exercise this morning at Edmonton International Airport. This exercise will be used to train emergency response personnel that would be involved in an actual emergency involving an on-site crash at Edmonton International Airport. A number of airport and area agencies and companies will be participating.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE PUBLIC CANNOT BE MADE AWARE OF THIS TRAINING EVENT BEFORE 11:00 AM TO ENSURE THE INTEGRITY OF THE SIMULATION.

An on-site crash will be simulated using combustible materials. Smoke and sirens are to be expected as emergency response and ambulance services will be fully deployed. Training exercise notices will be posted throughout the airport facilities. There will be little to no impact for travellers arriving or departing from Edmonton.

Parking

Media travelling to the airport must park in either the Parkade or the Value Park lot. Corporate Communications will provide media personnel with complimentary parking vouchers. For parking access to accommodate live broadcasts, please make arrangements with Corporate Communications prior to arriving to the airport.

Emergency Media Centre

In the event of an emergency at Edmonton International Airport, a Media Centre will be established in the Ground Transportation Office, located on the arrivals level of the North Terminal building. On-location media should report to the Media Centre for the most up to date information on the situation, to obtain interviews, and to arrange any passes and escorts required to cover the story.
