A fly-in is an event where pilots are invited to “fly-in” their aircraft and put them on display for visitors and fellow pilots. Fly-ins can be aimed at specific aircraft, such as taildraggers, warbirds, experimental aircraft or specific aircraft models, or they can be open to all. They're sometimes also combined with other events such as air shows, car shows, or airport open houses.
Fly-ins are often organized along with a meal, such as a BBQ or breakfast fly-in, where food is offered to participants and spectators for a small donation.
In recent years, Edmonton Airports has hosted Fly-In/Open House events at both Cooking Lake Airport and Villeneuve Airport during the summer months. Watch this website for details about upcoming Fly-In/Open Houses as they are scheduled.
